I accept that I'm not perfect and I am easily distracted, but the point is that I'm trying to improve my productivity and keep my focus while completing tasks. If you are like me, and trying to improve your productivity in 2023, here are 3 things that are working for me.
1. Set reminders
This has been a big one for me. This is also separate from my calendar app with all my due dates (I am a digital user versus traditional paper). If I have a reminder go off on my phone on a specific date/time I am much more likely to do that task in the moment (or that day if I don't clear the notification so I see it every time I pick up my phone). I use the reminders app that comes with my iPhone, but the Todoist app is great as well!
2. The "two-minute" rule
I learned about this rule somewhere on social media. If something will take you two minutes or less to complete (emptying the dishwasher, as an example), you should do it immediately. These tasks usually weigh on you mentally but don't take as long as you'd think to complete. Doing them as soon as you find them will save you time as you'll stress about it longer than it'll take you to complete.
3. Keep your workspace clear
Clutter can become a distraction in and of itself. Streamline your space frequently, it will create a distraction-free workspace and set your day up right when you come to work at a clean desk. This may seem like a simple thing to do, but the results it will create may surprise you. Similar to the two minute rule, it can be the small things like clutter that will slow your work day down.
When changing things in your routine you need to start small. Whether it's creating daily to-do lists that works best for you, or setting reminders, anything that helps you be more productive should be counted as a win. This can take trial and error but try and make the good habits stick!
